The native blue berry ginger (Alpinia caerulea) doesn't have flashy flowers but still does the 2 things I like about gingers in the landscape: spread to fill a space quickly (care required with exotic gingers near moist bush areas) and add texture to a border with stepped leaves on erect stems. Throw in a display coming through now of edible blue fruit (left) and a form from around Atherton with red-backed leaves (right) and there's still plenty of show.
